Here in Student Ministries, we believe in the life-changing power of God’s Word. We also believe the best way to experience this life change is by reading God’s Word everyday. In an effort to help teenagers do that we us a tool called SOAP; an acronym that makes it easy to read and apply the Bible to your everyday life. We encourage students to get a journal and record their SOAPs. Students will then have the ability to always look back and celebrate what God has taught them.
What does SOAP stand for?
- Scripture
Read the assigned scripture passages and choose one or two verses that stuck out to you. - Observation/Own Words
Why did the verse stick out? What’s happening in the story? Rewrite the verse in your own words. - Application
How can you apply what you read to your life? What do you think God is trying to tell you? How are you going to put it into action? - Prayer
Finish your time with God by writing out a prayer to God, thanking Him for what you’ve learned and asking Him to help you apply it.
