Are you a Big Financial “Loser”?

This weekend we started a new series called “The Biggest Loser.” We are not basing this series off the TV show where people lose weight, although we will be using a positive connotation of “Loser” just as they do. Our theme verse for this series is Mark 8:35
Mark 8:35 (NIV)
For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me and for the gospel will save it.
We want students to see that if they are willing to “lose” their life on earth for Christ’s sake, they will actually enjoy their life more both now and in eternity in Heaven.
We started this series out by talking about money. We want to help students realize at an early age that God blesses them with all the money they receive and help them have a biblical perspective on giving. We hope they walked away with the understanding that God is more concerned with the heart with which they give than the actual amount they give.
Take some time to talk to your son or daughter about giving this week. Show them how you make God a greater priority than the money you receive from Him. If this is something you struggle with, be honest with them and commit together as a family to start trusting God more with the money He entrusts to you. After all, the biggest “Loser” in the area of finances will never regret a single penny they gave away on earth in eternity!
