Talking about the tough stuff!
Parents,
Over the weekend, we tackled one of the toughest subjects ever…suicide. Our goal was to give students long range perspective on their lives and give them practical advice as to what to do if they struggled with suicidal thoughts. The verse we wanted to instill in their minds as they walked out of our doors was the promise God makes in Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
The two main action items we told students to take if they began thinking suicidal thoughts were:
1. Don’t isolate yourself! (Connect with others)
2. Connect with God
Please take some time this week to connect with your son or daughter by having a heart to heart conversation with them. We’ve started the discussion with them about the gift of life that God has blessed them with and we would love for you to keep the conversation going.
