4:10 pm: Just past a sign that said 45 miles to Buckeye, so we should be at the church building in about an hour. Looking forward to seeing everybody!

After a couple of late nights, some crazy activity on Monday and trying to keep up with 82 high school students, I ran out of time and energy to post about the last couple of days. And they have been great!

Tuesday started out with our session happening in the morning instead of at night so that we could spend the entire day at Knott’s Berry Farm! The groups of students were as awesome, had some great fellowship and enjoyed every part of the park. The lines were not that long, so the students had a blast going on ton of rides.

Wednesday morning we got up and got going to Huntington Beach after we finished breakfast. Again, it was a blast and I think that the students did everything possible at the beach. There was a lot of body surfing, some volleyball, beach soccer, fish tacos on the boardwalk and some shopping at the surf shops. Through all the activities the students have been great.

I write this now from Round Table Pizza where we are eating dinner. The beach obviously worked up everybody’s appetites because the pizzas were disappearing as fast as they hit the table. Tonight Pastor Greg is giving a message, we will share some small group time and the off to bed. We will leave after breakfast in the morning. Keep checking here as I will keep you posted of our approximate arrival time from the road and don’t forget to check our Facebook page for photos from the trip!

After breakfast and the Monday Morning SOAP, we got on the buses and headed to Raging Waters, with the average amount of sleep being 4 hours (leaders included).

Everybody was happy that we got there at opening, because the students got to go on quite a few of the rides before the bulk of the crowd got to the park. Evidently, the park does some kind of special for after 1 PM, because quite a few people were showing up at that time. To top it off, it got up to 93 degrees in San Dimas. It’s not Phoenix, but when you are running around in it with all the humidity, it wiped everybody out.

The students got along great! Darius made sure that the students were in groups of 8 or more to hang out at Raging Waters and they did great. The groups stayed that size the entire time and it looks like that they all had a blast.

One of the highlights of the day was Darius surfing! Alright, maybe that is not him, but you be the judge!

By the end of the day, the students were wiped out! When we arrived back at the University, the Rohlinger’s had brought El Pollo Loco. It was the perfect meal after the water park and the students loved it. Once we got together again, Mark Grochocki told his story, Jon Turner led worship and Pastor Greg gave the message. It was a fantastic day and all the students are getting to sleep for another big day tomorrow at Knott’s Berry Farm.

There was a lot of stuff to drag up to the meeting room and I had to get the screen ready for worship, which we are now getting started with now, at almost 11:30. More to come. Thanks for your patience and everybody is having a blast. Can’t wait to share more in the morning.

UPDATE 12:05 AM: Jon finished a great worship set and now all the students are getting to know each other. Moving around in circles talking to each person. We haven’t even gotten to rooms yet! Fun stuff! As I mentioned, we will have more to report in the morning. Raging Waters on deck for tomorrow…

We miss opportunities every day to make a difference in other people’s lives when we get too focused on our own life. So, at THE SPOT, we used the movie “The Blindside” to show the difference the Tuohy’s made in Michael Oher’s life when they stopped focusing so much on their own lives and began investing into his life.

The ironic thing about helping others out is that it not only changes their life, it changes our life as well. The bible shows us this principle in Proverbs 11:25 when it says, “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.”

With that in mind, one of the Next Steps we challenged the students to take was to help someone out, then post the difference it made in their own life right here at pvcstudents.com. This isn’t being done to brag about the things we do for others, but rather to encourage other teenagers to go out and make a difference in the world as well. Take a minute to reply to this Blog Post after helping someone out so that we can see the huge difference God makes in both our lives and others when passionate teenagers begin helping others out in need.
